Board Registration System Modernization - Change Coming!

The Board is transitioning to a new registration management system in fall 2025. This will change how the Board interacts with applicants and registrants online. The new system will also include an improved public register (license lookup) tool for public use in searching registrations and temporary permits and an online option for filing a complaint with the Board about geology practice. Read more here about this important information technology project. More information will be posted to this website as implementation proceeds. Check back periodically for updates.
Board Adopts Rule Changes

After completing a public comment period and consideration of public comment, the Board adopted rule changes at its Sept. 2025 meeting. The Board adopted a new rule establishing a process for Board review of petitions to consider an individual’s criminal convictions in terms of whether the criminal history might preclude obtaining a registration from the Board. This rule is in response to Oregon Senate Bill 1552 (2024) which recently went into effect and requires Oregon licensure boards to consider such petitions. In association with the new rule, the Board amended its fee rule to set a fee for a petition review. The Board also adopted amendments to its rule addressing registration for geologists associated with the U.S. military. The amendments align the rule with changes in federal law which limit the Board’s authority over military members and their spouses who are licensed to practice geology elsewhere and relocate to Oregon per military order. The Board continues to offer its temporary military spouse registration as an option for spouses and domestic partners of military members who are relocated to Oregon. Details about this rulemaking can be found at the Laws and Rules page of this website.
Scam Alert for Board Registrants

The attached flyer provides a proactive warning about a potential scam targeting geologists holding professional registrations.  Read for tips on how to recognize scams involving requests for registration-related payments or sensitive information. The Board will not ask for payments or sensitive information over the phone, by email, or by text. The Board encourages its registrants to contact the Board office if ever faced with a question about whether a phone call, e-mail, or other request is legitimately from the Board.
