About the Board

Mission statement

The Board works to protect the safety, health, and well-being of Oregonians in all matters related to geology practice. It does this by following key responsibilities that support high standards and serve the public good.

Main responsibilities of the Board

  • Licensing (registration): The Board issues registrations to those who practice geology in Oregon, making sure only qualified individuals are allowed to work independently in the field.
  • Complaint response: The Board investigates and responds to complaints from both the public and professionals, helping to maintain trust and accountability within the profession.
  • Public outreach: The Board educates those interested in pursuing geology careers about the pathway to registraton. The Board also provides guidance for those involved with geology practice, including sharing best practices and important rules.
  • Collaboration: The Board works together with related boards and organization on matters of mutual interest.
  • Continuing education and ethical standards: The Board emphasizes the importance of continuing education for registrants and ethics with in geology practice. 

Budget information

The Board operates independently and is funded entirely by fees, without receiving any state general funds. To set its budget and fees, the Board uses an administrative rulemaking process, which includes letting the public know about proposed budgets and inviting comments and feedback.

After public review, the Board approved its budget for the 2025-2027 biennium during the quarterly meeting on June 13, 2025. This budget covers July 1, 2025, to June 30, 2027.
