Tow Plate and Tow Business Certificate Requirement
Oregon laws and administrative rules require:
  • Any vehicle engaging in the towing or recovering of vehicles by any means for any direct or indirect compensation when the vehicle being towed or recovered is owned by a person other than the person towing the vehicle must be issued tow plates and a tow business certificate by DMV.
  • The owner name on the vehicle title, registration, and the tow business certificate must be the same as the person or entity using the vehicle for tow or recovery operations. Each tow or recovery vehicle must have a tow plate and business certificate specific to the vehicle's VIN.
  • TW plates and the tow business certificate are issued by DMV in conjunction with the vehicle registration.

    Police Chief Michael Iwai has retired from his position with the State Board of Towing, leaving vacant Position 7 - Chief of Police or County Sheriff.
