Margaret Carter to share her perspective on diversity
The first African American woman elected to the Oregon State Legislature, keynote speaker Margaret Carter is past president and CEO of the Urban League of Portland as well as past deputy director at the Oregon Department of Human Services. Now, as director of community engagement at DHS, Carter oversees implementation of legislation passed to reduce over-representation of minority children in the Oregon welfare system.
Carter graduated from Portland State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and from Oregon State University with a Master’s degree in psychology. The Margaret Carter Skill Center at Portland Community College, named in her honor, is dedicated to helping students become productive and contributing community members through basic educational and occupational training.
In keeping with this year’s theme, Carter’s presentation will help attendees understand what’s needed to go from “ideas to implementation” in our diversity efforts.
