Steps to become an Oregon Qualified Health Care Interpreter

  1. Fulfill HCI training, language proficiency, and work experience requirements. See Requirements for Qualification
  2. Note: Interpreters must make arrangements for training directly with HCI training programs (PCC CLIMB, AHEC) and for language proficiency testing directly with OHA approved language testing centers (Language Testing International, Language Line University).
  3. Download and complete Oregon Health Care Interpreter Registry Enrollment Application. (PDF)
  4. Note: If already registered, please skip this step.
  5. Obtain written verification of required:
    • 60 hours of formal health care interpreter training;
    • Language proficiency in English and the language(s) in which you provide interpretation;
    • 40 hours of documented health care interpreter work experience.

  6. Download and complete the Oregon Qualified Health Care Interpreter Application Checklist

  7. Mail all of the above materials, along with $25 Qualification Application fee to:
