Professional Standards Review

What happens during a Professional Standards Review?

A Professional Standards Review is a process used to determine if a private security provider meets the moral fitness standards required for certification or licensure.

This review may happen if:

  • An arrest, criminal charge, conviction, or disposition was reported to DPSST.
  • The criminal charge was dismissed, no complaint was filed or other non-conviction dispositions.
  • DPSST receives information that does not include an arrest or criminal charge, such as a complaint or termination from a job.

During the review, DPSST looks at:

  • The type and seriousness of the incident.
  • When it happened.
  • Whether it relates to your work in private security.
  • Any patterns of behavior or past incidents.
  • Whether you’ve taken steps to address the issue.
If DPSST finds that you may not meet the moral fitness standards for the certifications or licenses you hold, the DPSST may begin a formal process to deny, suspend, or revoke your certification or license. You will be notified by mail if the DPSST begins a formal process to deny, suspend, or revoke your certification or license. Please keep your contact information current. If you need to update your contact information, please submit the Change Personal Contact Information Form, call us at 503-378-8531 Option 1.

The Background Check Information page provides examples of some of the conduct we may review.
