​Training Resources for I/DD Foster Home Providers

As of Jan. 1, 2026, the Office of Developmental Disabilities (ODDS) licenses and certifies adult and child foster homes.

Continuing education

For courses to satisfy the AFH training requirements for your license, the course must be approved for your license/provider type. Courses are available in multiple formats, including:

  • Classroom courses
  • Conferences
  • Online courses
  • Self-study courses

Annual training requirements

Each year the provider, resident manager and substitute caregivers must:

  • Complete at least 12 hours of department-approved training.
  • Training must be documented in the records of the adult foster home provider.

Training manual

  • Basics Training Manual - This manual and the accompanying training videos are not approved for annual training credit hours. They are only for meeting initial provider qualifications.
