I-84 and I-5 Interchange Resurfacing

Design Phase

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Portland, Multnomah)

This project will extend the service life of the four bridges that connect I-84 and I-5 through repairs and resurfacing.

Impacts

Construction Impacts

This work will require around-the-clock two week closure of three of the bridges that connect I-84 and I-5 in July and August 2018.  Only one bridge will close at a time.

The bridge that connects I-5 northbound to I-84 eastbound will only require nighttime closures.

In addition to the two-week closures, overnight ramp closures could occur nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. through November 2018. More details will be available as construction progresses.

Location

I-84 | at the I-5 interchange

Cost and Funding

$6,570,000.00

Benefits

Extend the service life of the four bridges that connect I-84 and I-5. Three bridges are in need of structural repair and structural resurfacing. One of the bridges only require surface repairs.

What Problem Will This Improve?

An average of 147,000 vehicles pass through the I-84 and I-5 interchange on a daily basis. The concrete bridges that carry this traffic are showing wear and tear. Work includes replacing bridge joints, performing structural repairs and resurfacing. Without these repairs, the bridges would need to close to trucks or other heavy vehicles and could eventually stop serving all drivers.
