I-5: Marquam Bridge Electrical and Lighting Replacement Project

​This project will replace the existing electrical and lighting systems for both the upper and lower decks of the Marquam Bridge. The bridge deck lighting fixtures, and navigation channel and pier lighting will be updated to modern LED technology. These upgrades will increase reliability, improve water navigation and freeway user safety, and reduce maintenance and operating costs.

Impacts

Traffic Impact

​Typical traffic impacts include limited duration temporary lane closures. Most of the work will take place at night to reduce congestion. More information will be available prior to construction.

All existing navigation channel, pier and freeway lighting systems will remain operational during the project to the extent possible.

Schedule

​Construction is expected to start in summer 2019. Construction will not take place on major holidays or during large public events in the area. More information will be available prior to construction.

About





This project will improve visibility and safety for both freeway and marine users on or near the Marquam Bridge. The project will replace the existing electrical conduit and wiring for the upper and lower deck electrical and illumination systems, convert fixtures to LED lighting, convert navigation channel and pier lights to LED lighting, and install new service cabinets.


These upgrades will increase reliability, improve water navigation and freeway user safety, and reduce maintenance and operating costs. 


All existing navigation, pier, channel marker and freeway lighting systems will be operational during the replacement project to the extent possible.

Location

I-5 | ​This project takes place along the Marquam Bridge, extending from the I-5 northbound ramp beginning near Tilikum Crossing, the I-405 southbound to I-5 northbound ramp beginning from Naito Parkway to Pier Number 5 located on the east bank of the Willamette River.

​$2,512,869

​This project will increase safety for motorists and maritime users along and adjacent to the Marquam Bridge and its inbound and outbound ramps. The lighting and electrical system updates will also reduce maintenance and operating costs.
