ODOT will implement measures to reduce intersection crashes and fatalities at the intersection of U.S. 97, OR 140 and OR 66 which ODOT has been identified as one of Oregon's 20 most dangerous 'Hot Spot' intersections.
The primary purpose of this design-only project is to reduce fatal and serious intersection crashes through a combination of improvements, including realigning OR 140 intersection at OR 66 in Klamath Falls from MP 58.86 to MP 58.79, installing a new signal light at the intersection, relocating Delap Pit Road from OR 66 MP 58.934 to intersect OR 140 at MP 68.47 with other safety improvements, including new lights, signs, and painted lanes. The project will include realigning the U.S. 97/OR 140 southbound off-ramp.

Intersection upgrades have been shown to aid in drivers' awareness of the intersection traffic controls, thereby reducing fatalities and serious injuries.
This project qualified for federal funding, in part, because improving safety at high-crash intersections by reducing crashes and fatalities, is a priority in both state and federal highway safety plans.
