OR 99E Bridge Rail Retrofit

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Portland, Multnomah)

ODOT is increasing safety on Oregon 99E, also known as Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, at the bridge over the railroad tracks just north of U.S. 30 Bypass/Lombard Street. The project will install an additional bridge rail and protective screening onto the historic structure.

Repair damaged sections of the historic railing.
Install an additional bridge rail that meets current safety standards.
Install protective fencing.

Project cost: $5,413,543.00

Benefits

New bridge rails increase safety by reducing the ability for vehicles to crash through the railing onto the railroad tracks below. Installing protective fencing will improve safety by reducing the ability for objects to fall or be thrown off the bridge.
