I-205 Paving: Abernethy Bridge to SE 82nd Avenue

Project Completed

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Portland, Multnomah)

Beginning in 2020, ODOT improved Interstate 205 between Aberbethy Bridge in Oregon City and SE 82nd Avenue near the Oregon 224 interchange. The project repaved over 4 miles of I-205 as well as install rumble strips. This project was completed in 2021.

About

This summer, ODOT will improve Interstate 205 between Aberbethy Bridge in Oregon City and 82nd Avenue near the Oregon 224 interchange in Portland.

This project repaves over 4 miles of I-205, inlcuding a number of on- and off-ramps in the project area. ODOT will also install rumble strips in key locations to improve safety and reduce crashes.

What are rumble strips?

Rumble strips are grooved patterns that make a rumbling sound and physical vibration that immediately warn distracted drivers that they are leaving their driving lane. Rumble strips allow drivers to self-correct and avoid a crash.

Why rumble strips?

Roadway departure fatalities are a serious and often preventable problem.

The Federal Highway Administration reports that 54 percent of all highway fatalities in the U.S. are caused by drivers leaving their lane of travel.
