U.S. 30: Snake River (Ontario) Bridge Repairs

Design Phase

Region 5: Eastern Oregon (Ontario, Malheur)

Repair and resurface the Snake River Bridge on U.S. 30 in Ontario.

Impacts

Traffic Impact

During construction, expect signs and flaggers to direct traffic through the work zone. One lane in each direction will be open at all times across the bridge. We will establish an alternate route to direct traffic away from expected congestion. Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will have access through or around work zones.

Meetings and Events

We held an online open house on March 29 - April 9, 2021. The information presented in the open house remains available for review at the following link.

About

The Snake River Bridge provides important access between Oregon and Idaho. Built in 1967, the structure is in need of repairs and upgrades. Without them, the bridge will continue to deteriorate with increasing maintenance costs, and potentially impacting mobility.

This project will make important upgrades to the bridge. These upgrades will support an increase in freight mobility, support economic vitality, increase safety, reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Key project components include:

  • Replace existing surface pavement with more durable and longer lasting material.
  • Replace bridge joints.
  • Repair concrete girders.
  • Construct new curb ramp on northwest side (OR) of bridge.
  • Retrofit existing bridge rail to meet rail height standards.
