Construction Impacts

Construction activities for the project are expected to consist of single lane closures and periodic 20 minute limited duration closures (stop and hold) with a two-way release. Based on traffic volume trends and differences in road characteristic, the project was split into two sections. The first 6 sites closer to Bend (MP 143.68 – 152.75) were labeled the “Northern Portion" of the project and the last site near La Pine (MP 164.17) was labeled the “Southern Portion" of the project.

About

This project entails Installation of Road and Weather Information system (RWIS), speed sensors, travel time readers and changeable message signs at seven locations between the cities of Bend and La Pine to improve safety along the U.S. 97 corridor,

The equipment associated with this project will also be used to provide ODOT’s TripCheck system with additional traveler information that can be used by motorists and online users alike.

These improvements are consolidated into both the northbound and southbound direction of U.S. 97, and these will provide additional information about travel times and conditions.

This is the first section of a broader plan to extend the intelligent Road Weather Information System (RWIS) to Chemult and Spring Creek Hill.
