Benefits
Freight mobility is important to local businesses, fruit transport during harvest, and residents in Hood River County.
The prior shape of this intersection required large freight vehicles to use more than one lane while turning, which slowed down traffic and created opportunities for crashes.
This project also widened the shoulder from 2 ft. to 5 ft. so it’s easier for trucks to stay within their lane while turning. It also increased the view of oncoming traffic and provided more space for people bicycling.
We built similar improvements at two other intersections in Hood River County in 2019: OR 281 at Guignard Drive and Country Club Road at Barrett Drive.
