The All Roads Transportation Safety Program (ARTS) identifies intersections where a high concentration of crashes occur and implements safety improvements to help reduce crashes at these locations. Intersections typically have high crash rates.
We completed an ARTS project in Hood River County, improving safety at 22 locations on OR 281(Hood River Highway/Tucker Road), OR 282 (Odell Highway) and OR 35 (Mt. Hood Highway).

Planned safety and visibility improvements included:
Replacing existing traffic signal heads with reflective backplates at two intersections on OR 281 at May Street and Brookside Drive to increase signal visibility.
Updating existing signs including larger “Stop” signs and street name signs at intersections and side streets to alert drivers of upcoming intersections on OR 281, OR 282 and OR 35.
New street lights to improve visibility and provide drivers advanced warning at the intersection of OR 35 and OR 282.
Vegetation trimming in some locations for better visibility.
