U.S. 30BY – Bridge Avenue Bridge Repair

Construction Phase

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Portland, Multnomah)

This project restores a section of NW Bridge Ave. east of NW Germantown road.

Impacts

Traffic Impact

Thanks for your patience while crews made these improvements. Crews will continue work under the structure through the end of July. While most of the work happens below with no impacts to NW Bridge Ave, there may be nighttime single lane closures through July.

Crews are using scaffolding to conduct repairs and help minimize impacts from falling concrete on the surrounding property.

Construction Impacts

Construction started June 5.
Travel impacts included up to 9 days and nights of full closure to complete the bridge road repair safely.

Nighttime Noise

During concrete removal, neighbors may notice falling concrete and nighttime noise. Crews will be active below the bridge to monitor safety. They will install scaffolding to perform the work and minimize impacts to the surrounding area. We have a 24/7 noise hotline number to share any nighttime noise complaints: 503-294-1353

About

This project improves safety and extends the life of the bridge on NW Bridge Avenue, northwest of the west end of the St. Johns Bridge. The bridge structure, built in 1930, consists of steel with concrete casing and required concrete repair to continue serving travelers.

The work on this bridge included two phases:
  • Inspection in November 2025 provided detailed information on where and how much concrete replacement is needed.
  • Construction in June 2026 included removal of damaged concrete and then applying new concrete, repair or replacement of bridge joints and repaving the bridge deck.
Safety Improvements
  • Crews are making concrete repairs to protect the steel structure, and ensure the bridge is safe and functional for years to come.
  • The surface of the road was paved to create a smoother ride for travelers.
