About
As part of HB 2017, the Center Street Bridge is a future Statewide Transportation Investment Project to design and construct seismic retrofit improvements as identified, analyzed and refined in the 2019 Advanced Investigation report.
Project Benefits
There are two highway bridges that cross over the Willamette River in the Salem area. Of the two, the Center Street Bridge was determined to be the better candidate for a seismic retrofit project.
Installation of the retrofit measures will ensure that accessibility and connectivity across the river will be maintained after a major seismic event, although not at the current level assuming the Marion Street Bridge will not be in service.
This is an important consideration given that most essential services necessary for residents of the west Salem area (including governmental and medical services) are on the east side of the river and would be inaccessible if both bridges should fail.

Cost and Funding
ODOT, Salem-Keizer Area Transportation Study (SKATS) and the city of Salem partnered to fund the limited advance investigation at a cost of $200,000. The investigation resulted in an estimate of $100 million to design and construct.
Access for pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will be available and identified through or around work zones.
