Impacts

Traffic Impact

Expect construction noise and delays. Please use caution and watch for workers.

Construction Impacts

You can expect:

  • Crews working mostly during the day, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Lane and shoulder closures as needed.
  • Flaggers directing traffic when crews are setting up cones and barrels.
  • Construction noise and delays.
  • Businesses to remain open during construction.
  • A three-week-long 24/7 full bridge closure with detours in early January 2026.

During the closure, you can expect:

Local freight and passenger vehicles can use South A Street Bridge or detour around the work zone using Pioneer Parkway and OR 126. Larger freight and oversized vehicles can use OR 126 / Bob Straub Parkway to get around the Main Street Bridge closure.

Construction Activities

Crews are prepping for the early 2026 detour.

About

The historic westbound OR 126B Main Street Bridge over the Willamette River was built in 1929. The surface has cracks and is in need of repairs.

To improve the bridge's lifespan, we're:

  • Removing and replacing the bridge surface.
  • Replacing the bridge joints.
  • Repaving the road on the east approach.
  • Adding a bike ramp at the east approach.Click here to sign up for email updates

During construction, we're considering a full bridge closure and would detour both directions of traffic to share the South A Street eastbound bridge.

We're planning to build and will have a better idea about construction schedule and cost as we get further into design.
