Traffic Impact

Expect ramp and lane closures with delays and flaggers controlling the work zone.

Construction Impacts

We are working Sunday night through Friday morning, nightly 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

We estimate completing the project by the end of October.

Construction Activities

While our crews are working on different parts of the bridge, we'll need to close ramps onto and off of the Marion Street Bridge. Follow the signed detour routes to get around the closure.

Plan ahead for the detours:

  • detour map for Marion Street on-ramp and Wallace Road off-ramp closuresWhile the Marion Street on-ramp is closed, traffic can take Commercial Street to Front Street to get onto the bridge.
  • While the Wallace Road off-ramp is closed, traffic can take the Edgewater Street exit, to Patterson Street and 7th Street to get to Wallace Road. Freight trucks take a slightly different detour, continuing on Edgewater Street to Murlark Avenue, to 7th Street to get to Wallace Road.
  • detour map for Front Street on-ramp and OR 22 ramp to West Salem closureWhile the Front Street on-ramp is closed, traffic can continue on Front Street to Commercial Street, to Marion Street to get onto the bridge.
  • While the OR 22 ramp to continue into West Salem is closed, traffic can take the Wallace Road off-ramp and go down Edgewater Street to get back onto OR 22.

Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will have access through or around the work zone.

enlarged project mapThe Marion Street Bridge is an important connection from Salem to West Salem and the surrounding communities. We last paved the bridge in 2011 and the surface is damaged and needs repaving. We’re working on a quick design project to restore the surface of the bridge before it gets worse. We’re using a different, stronger material to pave so the new surface should last for about 20 years.

We are:

  • Repaving the damaged surface.

  • Creating a waterproof surface to help prevent water from entering, freezing and cracking the pavement.

  • Providing a smoother surface for drivers.
