About

In August 2021, after extensive public outreach, Jefferson County and ODOT decided to move forward with the closure of SW Bear Drive and Eureka Lane at U.S. 97. These intersections are being permanently closed due to a history of serious and fatal accidents at the intersection of U.S. 97 and Bear Dr. Eureka Ln. Poor visibility and the presence near the end of a passing lane where higher speeds exist creates additional safety concerns. A temporary concrete barrier is currently installed to prevent turning maneuvers on to or off of these roads from the highway.

The project will include the following improvements

  • Disconnect SW Bear Drive (east) from the highway.
  • Disconnect SW Bear Drive (west) from highway and provide emergency service partial hammerhead on SW Bear Drive.
  • Disconnect Eureka Lane from highway and construct emergency service cul-de-sac on Eureka Lane to assist vehicle turn around.
  • Widening U.S. 97 at Dover Lane and install center turn lanes and guardrail. Dover Lane will be partially realigned at intersection to improve site distance.
  • Left turn lanes at SW Dover Lane to improve safety for drivers making left turns from U.S. 97.
