Tower Road Interchange Bridge over I-84

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We are repairing the bridge surface and retaining walls, and rebuilding and paving the transitionss connecting Tower Road to the bridge.​​

Impacts

Traffic Impact

Tower Road Bridge (overpass) closures have been postponed. Watch for flaggers in the area.

Construction Impacts

​During construction, the bridge will be closed for up to four weeks. We will have a detour​​​ route for westbound traffic during the closure.
Love's Truck Stop will stay open for eastbound travelers and westbound travelers using the detour.

​​We held an online open house May 5-8, 2025.

Schedule

For the week of May 25:
​Tower Road Bridge closures have been postponed.
  • Week of May 26: Tower Road Bridge northbound closure with signed detour.
  • Week of June 8: Tower Road Bridge southbound closure with signed detour.
  • June: Full closure of Tower Road Bridge. Westbound travelers will use a detour. Love's Truck Stop will stay open for eastbound travelers and those using the detour.
  • Through July: Crews will complete paving, striping and sign installation. Expect occasional nighttime ramp and lane closures.
The schedule is tentative and subject to change.
Project is scheduled to be completed by August.

Details

About

​The road bridge approaches and bridge decks need repairs andEnlarged map of project. upgrades due to an increase in truck traffic. Deck seal is losing its effectiveness, allowing moisture to penetrate the surface and reducing its lifespan. Bridge rail does not meet current height and capacity standards.

We will:
  • Repair the bridge deck surface.
  • Rebuild bridge approaches and rail.
  • Repair the bridge wing walls.
  • Pave and rebuild the approaches connecting Tower Road to the bridge.

​Tower Road Bridge over I-84, Exit 159, 5 miles west of Boardman.

Cost and Funding

​This project is estimated to cost $3 million to $3.45 million.
