Traffic Impact

Expect crews working at night with single lane, shoulder and ramp closures as needed. Use caution and watch for workers.

Construction Impacts

You can expect:

  • Crews mostly working at night, from 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.
  • The speed limit to be reduced to 55 mph in the work zone.
  • Single lane, shoulder and ramp closures as needed.
Our schedule may change, but we plan to close:

    • Exit 172 northbound on-ramp at 7 p.m. on May 21.
    • Exit 174 southbound on-ramp at 7 p.m. on May 31.
    • Exit 174 northbound on-ramp 7 p.m. on June 1 and June 2 – this work is estimated to take two nights to complete.
    • Exit 174 northbound off-ramp at 7 p.m. on June 3.
  • Construction noise and delays.
Visit TripCheck.com for the most up-to-date information on ramp closures.

Construction Activities

After we set up the work zone, we'll start working on repairing or replacing the guardrail. Then we'll repair and replace the bridge surface and joints as needed.

Visit TripCheck for the most current traffic information.

Pedestrians, including those with disabilities, will have access through or around work zones.

Always drive safely, watch for construction signs and workers.

About

The existing pavement in this section of I-5 is damaged. The driving surface is rapidly cracking and will continue to do so to the point where our maintenance crews won't be able to repair.

For this project, we'll:

  • Remove the existing pavement and repave.
  • Add new permanent striping.
  • Add back in the existing shoulder rumble strips.
  • Repair bridge surfaces and joints as needed.
  • Repair or replace guardrail.

This work will help extend the road and bridges' useful life and give travelers a smoother ride. Adding shoulder rumble strips alerts inattentive or drowsy drivers that they've drifted out of their lane.
