​​​​​​​​​​​​​​We are constructing a safety improvement project that will eliminate the steep approach to the railroad crossing.​

Impacts

Traffic Impact

No traffic impacts at this time. Construction is now scheduled to begin late April.​​​
Travelers can expect a full two-week closure early in construction.

Construction Impacts

​​During construction, we will have a full closure on U.S. 30 and Pole Line Lane with a detour.

We held an online open house​ March 24-April 6, 2025.

Schedule

Construction is scheduled to begin late April and be completed in May.

About

​The Pole Line Lane railroad crossing is in Baker County.Enlarged project map. It is located 3.5 miles south of Haines, and 5.5 miles north of Baker City, near the intersection with U.S. 30, milepost 44.

For this project, we will:
  • ​Eliminate the steep approach.
  • Pave the section of road surrounding the railroad crossing and tie into U.S. 30.
  • Add new signs.
Union Pacific Railroad operates the rail and owns the right of way.
Baker County owns and maintains Pole Line Lane.

​The estimated project cost through construction is $1.9 million.​
