About
ODOT is improving travel safety on SW Barbur Blvd (OR 99W). A new enhanced crossing will be installed at SW 26 Way with a rectangular rapid flashing beacon, crosswalk striping and audible pedestrian push buttons. The project also fills in sidewalk gaps, adds ADA-compliant curb ramps and upgrades the striping between SW 26 Avenue and SW Spring Garden Street. There may be driveway modifications to improve safety for pedestrians and people biking.
SW Barbur Blvd. lacks pedestrian crossings and a connected sidewalk network. It is a high priority area for safety improvements due to the crash history and surrounding conditions. OR 99W has four lanes with a 40 MPH speed limit for 17,000+ daily vehicles on average (2023).
We’re improving safety and accessibility for pedestrians and people biking and using mobility devices. The project improvements increase visibility of pedestrians, remove barriers and gaps in the sidewalk network and reduce conflicts with vehicles. This provides pedestrians with improved access to local destinations and transit stops.
This is a key area for pedestrians and people biking to access bus stops, businesses and cross I-5. This project extends recent bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements made by PBOT and ODOT on SW Barbur Ct. and SW 26th Ave. under SW Barbur Blvd. and I-5.
