About
This project will improve safety along rural state highways in southwest Oregon by installing advance warning signs at approximately 63 high-speed intersections.
Background: Along high-speed segments of rural state highways, crashes are more likely to occur at intersections than other areas. The types of crashes at intersections commonly include rear end, angle and those involving turning movements.
Intersections: This project identifies 63 rural intersections on five state highways where multiple crashes have occurred within a tenth of a mile of the intersection. Many of these crashes involved serious injuries.
Highways: State highways in Coos, Curry, Douglas, Josephine and Jackson Counties.
Stationary signs: Several types of signs will be installed: advance intersection warning signs, “Stop Ahead” warning signs and street name signs (as applicable).
Flashing beacons: The project will modify the existing overhead flashing beacons at five locations along U.S. 101 by removing the overhead flasher and installing actuated beacons on ground-mounted advanced intersection warning signs.
