About

Enlarged project area mapIn February 2020, Gaston's Safe Routes to School Plan established the following goal:

“The Gaston School District community envisions a future where children and their families safely, comfortably, and conveniently walk and bicycle as part of the daily school commute and a healthy lifestyle.”

Currently, students living on the south end of town off of NW Matteson Road don't have a separated walking/biking path to get to the schools in the area and must walk along the shoulder of the highway. As a result, most students are either driven to school or take the bus.

We're  building a sidewalk on the west side of OR 47 from NW Olson Road to NW Matteson Road.

When construction starts, you can expect:

  • Shoulder and lane closures with flaggers helping direct traffic as needed.

  • Construction noise and delays.
