Details

About

We are building an enhanced crossing on OR 99E a quarter of a mile south of SE Glen Echo Ave. The project installs an overhead rectangular rapid flashing beacon (RRFB), a pedestrian refuge island median, ADA compliant curb ramps with push buttons and illumination.

Pedestrian activated beacons can reduce crashes between vehicles and pedestrians by up to 47% according to the Federal Highway Administration. These devices increase driver awareness of a person crossing the road.

We worked with community to get feedback, which identified this location as a priority site as a part of the McLoughlin Boulevard Strategic Investments Plan , a planning project to identify and prioritize equitable and impactful transportation safety improvements for pedestrians and people biking and accessing transit along the corridor.

Location

OR 99E

Cost and Funding

Project cost is being developed and is being paid for by Statewide Pedestrian and Bicycle Program Funds.

Benefits

This project improves pedestrian safety on the busy OR 99E corridor by installing an enhanced pedestrian crossing. This new crossing reduces spacing between pedestrian crossings on OR99E in Clackamas County.

What Problem Will This Improve?

This location is in a long stretch of OR 99E without a pedestrian crossing and lacks connectivity for pedestrians. Currently pedestrians travel about a half-mile from the bus stop to cross SE McLoughlin Blvd. using a marked crossing.
