ADA Curb Ramps, Region 1 Portland Metro and Surrounding Areas Phased Ramps

Construction Phase

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Barlow, Beaverton, Cornelius, Damascus, Estacada, Fairview, Forest Grove, Gladstone, Gresham, Hillsboro, Hood River, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Molalla, North Plains, Oregon City, Portland, Sandy, Sherwood, Tigard, Troutdale, Tualatin, West Linn, Wilsonville, Wood Village, Clackamas, Hood River, Multnomah, Washington)

We are improving over 1,600 existing, non-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at intersections and mid-block crossings throughout the Portland Metro and surrounding areas in order to meet current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards. Phases 1-7 are in the design or construction phase. When planning is complete for phases 8 - 10, we will add them to the map. Construction will occur in 10 phases. Impacts

Construction Impacts

What to expect the week of December 1

In Portland, expect construction activity at intersections:

  • Mid-block crossing on OR 99W (Southwest Barbur Boulevard) near Southwest 60th Avenue.
  • Southwest Taylors Ferry Road and OR 43 (South Riderside Drive).
Anticipated impacts: Single traffic lane closures. Nighttime work between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m.

In Lake Oswego, expect construction activity at intersections along I-5 and OR 217:
  • Southwest 65th Avenue.
  • Bangy Road and Kruse Way.
  • South Beavercreek Road.

Anticipated impacts: Single traffic lane closures.

In Oregon City, expect construction activity at intersections along OR 213 (Trails End Highway):

  • South Beavercreek Road.

Anticipated impacts: Single traffic lane closures.

In Tualatin, expect construction activities at the following intersections:

  • Southwest Nyberg Street.
  • Southwest 124th Avenue and OR 99W (Pacific Highway West).

Anticipated impacts: Single traffic lane closures.

In Tigard, expect construction activities at the following intersections:

  • Southwest Hazel Fern Road.
  • Southwest Parkway.

Anticipated impacts: Single traffic lane closures.

Construction schedules and traffic impacts may change due to weather or other unexpected conditions in the field. Updates will be posted here as new information becomes available.

You may occasionally see a lane closed even when no crews are visible. This often means new concrete is curing which is a critical step for the concrete to reach full strength. We appreciate your patience and will reopen lanes as soon as we are able.

During construction, there will be temporary lane, shoulder and sidewalk closures near intersections on state highways in the Portland Metropolitan Area and surrounding areas. All roads will remain open. We will provide accessible paths around the work zones for people walking, biking and rolling. Generally, it takes 1-2 weeks to complete work on an individual corner, with construction on several corners happening concurrently. However, only one corner per intersection will be under construction at a time to maintain access to nearby businesses and services. We will post traffic impacts here on a weekly basis.

Most of the work will take place during the day, however some nightwork is necessary for this project. Those working or living near work zones may hear the noise from heavy equipment, construction trucks, beeping noise when vehicles are in reverse and equipment such as concrete saws, drills and jackhammers. For any noise-related concerns associated with nighttime work, contact the 24/7 noise hotline at: 503-294-1301.

Schedule

This work will occur in phases beginning in summer 2025.

The work will take place in approximately ten phases that will overlap in terms of timing and geography. The list below shows the general schedule and locations of the first seven phases. We're planning to construct approximately 200 to 400 ramps in each phase.
