About
In 2021, Oregon Governor Kate Brown convened a team to consider the relocation of the Mt. Hood Rest Area. Since then, this group of leaders and partners has been working together to assist the community and interested parties in preparing a process and plan for rest area relocation.
This is a partnership project with:
- Oregon Solutions
- Oregon Travel Information Council
- Travel Oregon
- U.S. Forest Service
The current rest stop location is on U.S. Forest Service land. Oregon Travel Information Council manages and maintains the rest stop.
Location
U.S. 26
|
near Government Camp
Cost and Funding
$230,000 through the Federal Lands Access Program
What Problem Will This Improve?
Exponential growth in traffic and changes
in use render the rest area no longer able to
safely meet the travel, work, environmental,
and recreational demands of the 21st century.
Relocating the Mt. Hood rest area will benefit
the traveling public by:
- Increasing safety.
- Increasing traffic and freight capacity.
- Modernizing the rest area facility.
- Reducing environmental impacts.
- Improving the availability of public services.
- Enabling local development
