About
This project will improve pedestrian facilities by building ADA-compliant sidewalk curb ramps at 31 intersections spread across four communities: Brookings, Gold Beach, Myrtle Point and Roseburg. Most intersections will involve curb ramp construction at multiple corners.
Problem: Many sidewalk ramps along state highways in southern Oregon are difficult to navigate for people using wheelchairs or those who have visual impairments.
Solution: New curb ramps will be constructed that meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
Benefits: ADA-compliant curb ramps will allow smooth and safe travel along sidewalks and streets for individuals in wheelchairs, parents pushing strollers and people making deliveries. Yellow truncated domes provide a tactile walking surface for people with visual impairments.
Staging: Since this project involves locations in three counties and four cities, the contractor has flexibility to move from one community or work site to another. While this may improve efficiency, it can be difficult to provide communities with schedules for when a specific location will be under construction.
