About
Several intersections with OR 18 in Dayton have a long history of severe and fatal crashes.
To improve safety, we're looking at potential solutions, like constructing a roundabout at the OR 233/SE Lafayette Highway and OR 18 intersection, to help reduce crash risks.
A new roundabout would:
- Replace the current stop-controlled intersection.
- Change how SE Ash Road operates both north and south of OR 18.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts are safer than traditional intersections. Locations with roundabouts can see a 90% reduction in fatalities, 76% reduction in injuries and a 35% reduction in all crashes.
The roundabout will naturally slow traffic going through the intersection. By reducing the speed of traffic, the severity of crashes should decrease.
We’re not funded for construction yet. As we get further into design, we'll have a better idea about the construction cost and schedule.
