About
The Oregon Department of Transportation is developing a Corridor Plan for OR 540 (Cape Arago Highway) in Coos County between the city of Coos Bay and the unincorportated community of Charleston. Previous planning efforts have identified a lack of adequate bicycle, pedestrian and transit facilities in this area. The Cape Arago Highway Corridor Plan will identify and prioritize transportation system improvements and access management strategies to make multimodal travel safer and more efficient along this regional highway corridor.

What Problem Will This Improve?
Many state, local and tribal plans consistently emphasize the importance of improving multimodal safety, connectivity and access along the corridor that serves residential, commercial and recreation destinations. Common themes include enhancing pedestrian and bicycle facilities, improving access to transit stops and amenities, supporting recreational and tourism travel, and addressing the needs of older adults and other transportation-disadvantaged populations.
Additional Information
The study area includes roadway facilities within the state right-of-way from the south end of Coos Bay city limits (MP 4.49) along Cape Arago Highway to the east end of the Charleston Bridge (MP 8.20).
