About
We're developing a plan to better connect Bend, Sisters, and Redmond through non-motorized transportation options including running, walking, bicycling and rolling.
Today, there are no continuous, safe ways to bike or walk between the cities of Bend, Sisters, and Redmond. This project explores opportunities to address these gaps.
The project area (known as the “Deschutes Triangle") includes the area surrounding U.S. 97 between Bend and Redmond, U.S. 20 between Bend and Sisters, and OR 126 between Sisters and Redmond. These highways are owned by ODOT and provide essential transportation service for local, intercity, and freight travel. The project will recommend routes between the three cities and create a list of needed upgrades or new facilities for people walking or rolling. This could include improving road shoulders to be safer for pedestrians or building a new shared-use path. This project will not include construction or design of these improvements.
Creating active transportation routes between the three cities will provide safe and comfortable ways to get around without a car. These routes would benefit both residents and visitors by providing alternative commuting routes as well as recreational routes. The Active Transportation Plan will outline where and how routes could be built in Deschutes County and develop concept designs that support future funding opportunities and later implementation.
The new plan will build on existing plans and past work.
Our goals:
- Improve safety for all users
- Strengthen regional connectivity
- Improve accessibility and community health
- Coordinate and implement regional investments
Note: This study will not build paths or complete any construction.
