SW Hood (OR 43) Avenue Bridge Under I-5 Maintenance

Project Completed

Region 1: Portland metro and Hood River County (Portland, Multnomah)

In spring 2019, the Oregon Department of Transportation did bridge maintenance in southwest Portland. This work improved the weight capacity of the structure, maintaining the long-term safety and use of this heavily traveled bridge.

Construction Impacts

Construction impacts for this project are complete.

Work was complete in summer 2019.

Why Is Maintenance Needed on This Bridge?
Due to the changing nature of vehicle weights, bridge load ratings need to increase to meet current design standards. By adhering high strength plastic (fiber reinforcing polymer) onto support beams, bridge stability and load capacity is improved.
