About
OR 234 began sinking at milepost 15.1 after winter storms in early 2025. Crews continually provided temporary repairs while teams worked to design a permanent fix. A reduced speed limit of 35 mph was implemented for traveler safety. Geologists found voids in the ground deep beneath the road. To repair the road, crews removed the pavement surface and excavated to about 30 feet. The existing material was replaced with 14,000 tons of rock to better support the roadway. Crews also improved the drainage system before repaving the highway. Additional work will be required before the project is completed.
