We performed emergency repair work in response to a rockfall that occurred on January 5, 2022. The rockfall occurred on the hillside next to NW Bridge Avenue, (U.S. 30 Bypass) southeast of the west end of the St. Johns Bridge.
Enough rock had to be removed to safely drill the anchors that will reinforce the slope. Our contractor had two drills working to install the anchors needed to reinforce the slope and anchor the pinned mesh in place. Drilling activities were challenging in this unstable rock slope area.

ODOT geotechnical engineers have determined that a pinned mesh rockfall system needs to be installed to stabilize the slope and minimize the potential for additional rockfall events in this area.
