About
This quick turnaround project would construct an emergency evacuation ramp directly from Mountain Ave. to southbound Interstate 5.
Locked gates will control access for an Ashland emergency.
Location
I-5
|
Interstate 5, southbound at MP 17
Cost and Funding
~$100,000 (estimated) using state funds
Contractor
This will be constructed using both ODOT and City of Ashland crews.
Benefits
In case of fire or other disaster, allows an evacuation escape ramp for mid-Ashland, Mountain Avenue neighborhoods directly onto Interstate 5 via a gated, access road off Mountain Avenue.
Ashland residents should 'Know their Zone' regarding the appropriate evacuation routes.
What Problem Will This Improve?
Roads leading away from Ashland in an emergency are relatively limited. While OR 99 and East Main Street will release Ashland area traffic in case of emergency, those routes would quickly become congested with fleeing residents.
This 'mid-section' of Ashland is becoming densely developed and a direct route I-5 in case of emergency would be an additional evacuation route.
