About

We will repaint the highway lines (striping) along U.S. 20 (Monroe Street) in Burns between Roe Davis Avenue and Broadway Avenue to change the traffic lane configuration from the current four lanes (two lanes for each direction) to three lanes (one lane for each direction, plus a dedicated center turn lane).

Improved pedestrian crossings and snow storage along both sides of the highway are also part of the project.

This proven safety measure has been adopted in a number of other eastern Oregon communities with positive results.

Location

U.S. 20 |

U.S. 20 (Monroe Street) in Burns between Roe Davis Avenue and Broadway Avenue.

Cost and Funding

To be determined. We anticipate minimal impacts as only painted lines will be changed.

Benefits

Improved safety for all highway users.

What Problem Will This Improve?

Traffic tends to exceed speed limits when mulitple lane highways are also downtown main streets.  Pedestrians must cross four lanes of traffic to get to other side of highway. Two lanes of traffic in each direction can block view of pedestrians crossing highway. Ths project will improve safety for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
