Projects at Silver Falls State Park
Oregon Parks and Recreation Department received a one-time general obligation bond and is using some of that money for updates and improvements at Silver Falls State Park. Most of the projects are complete, with one final development to come.
The last major development is the construction of the North Gateway Visitor Center. OPRD is buidling this new visitor center near the north park entrance. the project is primarily funded through one-time GO Bond funds.
Developing the North Gateway will provide more opportunities for visitors to explore the north end of the park. Improvements include:
- North Gateway Visitor Center. (In progress)

Infrastructure improvements such as water, electrical, and sewer systems related to the North Gateway Visitor Center. (In progress)
- New North Canyon trailhead and parking lot, which will help parking congestion in the South Falls and Winter Falls parking areas. (Complete)
- Relocation of the RV dump station closer to campground. (Complete)
Visitor impacts
The North Gateway Visitor Center construction will enhance the visitor experience by providing interpretation, refreshments, and convening spaces accessible to everyone.
Upcoming milestones
- Summer 2026: Utility work and the final phase of interior construction inside the visitor center begins.
- Fall 2026: Go out to bid for site work, including access roads, parking lot, visitor information kiosk, connecting pathways, emergency access and other utilities.
- Spring 2027: Site work construction begins.
- Fall 2027: Major construction complete.
- Winter 2028: Interior design for education and enhanced visitor experience.
- Spring 2028: North Gateway Visitor Center grand opening!
