After concluding a public comment period and thoroughly reviewing the feedback received, the Board adopted several rule changes during its September 2025 meeting.
New rule on criminal conviction petitions
In response to Oregon Senate Bill 1552 (2024), which recently went into effect, the Board implemented a new rule that establishes a formal process for reviewing petitions from individuals with criminal convictions. This review process will determine whether an individual's criminal history may prevent them from obtaining registration from the Board. The adoption of this rule ensures compliance with the new legislative requirements, which mandate that Oregon licensure boards consider such petitions.
As part of implementing this process, the Board also amended its fee rule to establish a specific fee for reviewing these petitions.
Amendments concerning US military-associated geologists
The Board adopted additional amendments related to registration for geologists who are associated with the U.S. military. These changes update the rule to align with recent federal law adjustments, which now limit the Board's authority over military members and their spouses who are licensed to practice geology in another jurisdiction and move to Oregon due to military orders.
Despite these changes, the Board continues to offer temporary military spouse registration as an option for spouses and domestic partners of military members who are relocated to Oregon.
