SWIMS

Oregon Water Resources Department has undertaken an effort to develop the Surface Water Information Modeling System (SWIMS) as a modern update to the Water Availability Reporting System (WARS). The system is used to calculate water availability for Oregon watersheds and make that information available to support decision making for responsible allocation of surface waters. Water availability describes if and when how much water is available for appropriation so that new water right holders can expect use of water a reasonable amount of time to meet their demands. SWIMS will calculate water availability and summarize streamflow and water use for watersheds across the state. The information produced by SWIMS will reflect streamflow conditions from 1991 to 2020. Information from this new system is expected to be available in January 2030.
