Renew Registered Business Name

A registered business name must be renewed yearly in eLicense. This renewal is in addition to the renewal of the business registration with the Secretary of State.

The Oregon Real Estate Agency sends out a courtesy renewal reminder to the registered business name's managing principal broker or key contact by email. Failure to receive the email reminder is not an excuse for not renewing a registered business name on time.

How to renew

  1. Log in to the registered business name account. You can find the login information in the renewal reminder email. You cannot renew the registered business name from your personal eLicense account.
  2. Click "Online Services," then select "Renewal." "Online Services" is located toward the upper right corner of the window. The dropdown menu will give you the "Renewal" option.
  3. Complete the renewal, including payment. The fee is $50. Payment is made online by VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or electronic check.

When to renew

A registered business name must be renewed annually in the same month it was registered.

The managing principal broker or property manager renews the registered business name during the month it expires. You can check the expiration date by logging into the registered business name account in eLicense.

What is needed to renew

Have the following ready for an registered business name renewal:

  • Addresses. Confirm the physical, mailing, and email addresses for the registered business name. Note: Per ORS 696.200, the managing principal broker or property manager is required to notify the Agency of any change to the main office address before it happens.
  • List of associated licensees. Confirm which licensees are working under the registered business name.
  • List of open clients' trust accounts. Confirm the registered business name's open clients' trust accounts. Note: All property managers, and principal brokers managing rental real estate under a property management agreement, must have at least one open clients' trust account. Per ORS 696.241, the responsible licensee must notify the Agency of the opening or closing of a clients' trust account within 10 business days.
  • Payment. The fee is $50. Payment is made online by VISA, MasterCard, Discover, or electronic check.

If a registered business name expires

  • The registered business name is voided. To use the registered business name, the managing principal broker or property manager must register the business name again.
  • All associated licensees are inactivated. Inactive licensees cannot conduct professional real estate activity. If the business name is re-registered, all the licensees must be transferred to the newly re-registered registered business name.

If your license expired last month

If you are the only principal broker or property manager with the registered business name and your license expired in the month prior to the registered business name renewal month, you cannot renew the registered business name.

  • The registered business name is voided. To use the registered business name, the principal broker or property manager must register the business name again.
  • All associated licensees are inactivated. Inactive licensees cannot conduct professional real estate activity. If the business name is re-registered, all the licensees must be transferred to the newly re-registered RBN.
