Ben Berry, ODOT CIO, "IT Executive of the Year"
|
Ben Berry, ODOT’s chief information officer, was named "IT Executive of the Year" at the InnoTech Oregon Conference and Expo in April.
"We feel privileged to have Ben on board with us at ODOT," Deputy Director Mike Marsh said. "We’ve always known he’s an incredible asset to the agency. Now everyone else knows, too." In particular, Marsh noted Berry’s focus on creative customer service, accountable leadership and partnering efforts, among other areas.
Some of Berry’s accomplishments as ODOT’s CIO include:
- introducing broadband wireless communications to incident response trucks, truck inspections and remote sites;
- implementing the first broad use of BlackBerry messaging in state government;
- increasing customer support and expansion of road cameras;
- championing the use of open source software; and
- promoting customer service through his support of the "Central Services as a Service Organization" training.
Along with his normal ODOT duties, Berry chairs the state CIO Council and the steering committee of the state’s Computing and Network Infrastructure Consolidation, also known as CNIC.
