Mechanical Code Program

Adopted codes and standards

The Oregon Mechanical Building Code (OMSC) establishes the minimum requirements for the design, installation, alteration, and inspection of mechanical systems that are permanently installed and utilized to provide control of environmental conditions and related processes within buildings.

2025 Oregon Mechanical Specialty Code (OMSC)

Based on the 2024 International Mechanical Code (IMC) and International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)

  • Effective Oct. 1, 2025 with a *6-month phase-in period
  • Mandatory: April 1, 2026
  • *During the phase-in period, use of the 2022 OMSC or the 2025 OMSC is permitted.

Program activities

  • Mechanical Board - The Mechanical Board works with the division to adopt and administer the OMSC.
  • Code adoption - The division works with the board, local building officials and industry stakeholders to adopt each edition of the OMSC. The code adoption process includes a code development phase, a board review phase, a rulemaking phase and for certified inspectors, a code update training phase.
