Vehicle Types and Use 2022
The DAS Fleet and Parking Services manages 4,300 DAS-owned vehicles and more than 3,000 light duty fleet vehicles (10,000-pound Gross Vehicle Weight and under) owned by other agencies.
In 2022, fossil fuel-powered vehicles (e.g., gasoline and diesel) were the largest share of light-duty vehicles in the fleet. More fuel-efficient vehicles, however, are a rapidly growing share of the fleet. These include lower-emission and hybrid vehicles, along with plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) and fully electric vehicles (ZEVs).
DAS purchases approximately 700 vehicles every two years. The agency plans to add 50 to 100 ZEVs in the 2023-2025 biennium. Other agencies are actively adding ZEVs to their fleet also. Since 2022, the share of ZEVs in the state fleet has grown to between 60-65 vehicles in early 2024.
Following Oregon laws, by 2025, unless a state agency finds that an ZEV cannot meet a specific use need, the agency must buy or lease ZEVs for all new state light-duty purchases and leases.
