Borrowing from the State Library
Our
collections are not open to the public and some of the fragile or
historic materials must be viewed onsite. We recommend completing the appointment form so library staff can find and gather your materials. Click here to browse our catalog.
Oregonians with a current photo ID may check out circulating materials
by:
- Visiting the State Library Monday-Friday from 1pm until 4pm
- Go to your local library to request and InterLibrary Loan

Request an appointment at the State Library
As the State Library re-opens to the public, we strongly encourage making an appointment to request materials or meet with library staff. Staffing availability may not support immediate walk-ins. Getting a library card
Oregon residents may register to borrow items by presenting valid photo ID with their current address.
Valid Photo ID types:
- State of Oregon driver license, driver permit or ID card issued by DMV
- Passport
- Student ID card
- Military ID card
- Out-of-state driver license
- Other ID may be accepted on a case-to-case basis and approval by the Program Manager
Documents used to verify address (must be issued within last 30 days):
- Gas/electric bill
- Water/sewer bill
- Phone bill
- Cable bill
- Pay stub
