Public Library Statistics

The State Library of Oregon collects annual service measures and other statistics from all legally established public libraries in the state. Much of this data is then reported to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to inform a national Public Library Survey data collection effort (see more below). The data reporting period matches the July 1 - June 30 state fiscal year each year.

The most recent 5 years of Oregon's public library survey data is available as Excel spreadsheets below, and if are looking for older survey data or this data in a different format, please contact us. We are working toward making this data more accessible and available in system designed for data analysis and visualization.

National Public Library Survey (PLS)

The Oregon Public Library Survey is part of a national effort led by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Some, but not all, of Oregon's Public Library Survey data is reported each year to the national survey. Data from the National Public Library Survey is available from the IMLS going back to 1992.

Reporting Your Library's Statistics

The State Library of Oregon opens the online survey tool with instructions in July or early August for libraries to report on the recently closed fiscal year. The deadline to submit library statistics is October 1.

Help is always available! Contact us with questions or to schedule a training session. For instructions and FAQs for completing the survey, please visit https://libguides.osl.state.or.us/statsfaq
