Public Library Statistics

The State Library of Oregon collects annual service measures and other statistics from all legally established public libraries in the state. Much of this data is then reported to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) to inform a national Public Library Survey data collection effort (see more below). The data reporting period matches the state fiscal year each year, July 1 through June 30.

Data from the most recent five years are available in the Excel spreadsheets below:

Looking for older datasets? Please download spreadsheets from FY1992-93 to the present from the State Library of Oregon Digital Collections. If you are still looking for older survey data or need more recent data in a different format, please contact us.

Explore key data from the 2021 Oregon Public Library Statistical Report (data gathered and reported for the July 1, 2020 - June 30, 2021 period) through the 2021 Oregon Public Library Snapshot. This dashboard is meant to provide libraries with an easy, at-a-glance, printable visualization of some key data points. It doesn't not display all data from the Statistical Report. For comparison with 2020 data, please also see the 2020 Oregon Public Library Snapshot.

National Public Library Survey (PLS)

The Oregon Public Library Statistical Report is part of a national effort led by the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS). Some, but not all, of Oregon's public library data is reported each year to the national survey. Data from the National Public Library Survey is available from the IMLS going back to 1992.

Reporting Your Library's Statistics

The State Library of Oregon opens the online reporting tool with instructions in July or early August for libraries to report on the recently closed fiscal year. The deadline to submit library statistics is October 31.

Help is always available! Contact us with questions or to schedule a training session. For complete instructions and FAQs for completing the survey, please visit and bookmark our online guide.
