Grant opportunities

​​​​​​​​What is it?

Implementation of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) to provide $1B over a 5 year period ($200M per year) to communities at risk of wildfire to 1) develop/revise their Com​munity Wildfire Protection Plans (CWPP)​ and/or 2) implement mitigation activities identified within their CWPPs.​​

Who is eligible to apply?

Any community at risk to wildfire, including local governments, HOA’s, Tribes and State Forestry agencies.

How to apply?

The 2023 application period is planned to open June 2023, check the USDA Forest Service for updates. Revised guidance for the 2023 application period will be posted as soon as it is released by the USDA Forest Service.

On April 11, 2023​, ODF hosted an informational webinar on the 2023 application period. This meeting provided a brief overview of the Community Wildfire Defense Grant Program, highlighted lessons learned from the 2022 application period, shared 2023 updates as available from the USDA Forest Service, and had a question-and-answer period. View the webinar​​.

​​​​ ​​2023 Volunteer Fire Capacity (VFC) Funding Announcement

2023 Volunteer Fire Capacity (formerly Volunteer Fire Assistance) awarded funding, including the Bipartisan Infrastructure funding for fire shelters, are subject to receipt of funding from the USDA Forest Service. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: REVIEW THE NWCG FIRE SHELTER SAFETY WARING AND REGULATIONS.
