Programed projects have funding identified, are scheduled for 2027 and were approved by the OTC in January 2026.

Project Description

Two sections of Oregon 204 in northeastern Oregon have a history of winter crashes, making them some of the most hazardous locations in the area. Tall trees create heavy shade, which contributes to icy conditions and poor visibility. This project aims to reduce those risks and improve driver safety.

We will remove trees, flatten slopes, widen shoulders at curves, as well as install radar speed feedback signs in advance of the curves to help drivers see better and stay on the road.

Expected Outcome

After the project is complete, drivers will notice wider shoulders, fewer trees shading the road, and radar signs that alert them if they’re going too fast.

These changes will improve visibility, reduce icy spots in winter, and make it easier for drivers to stay in their lane—especially around curves.

Community Benefits

Safety

Reduce the number and severity of crashes.

We will improve road design and enhance driver awareness in the corridor by flattening slopes, widening shoulders, and adding speed radar signs on two corners.

Improve visibility.

We will open sight lines in the identified area, allowing drivers to better assess road conditions.

Improve winter driving safety.

We will reduce the likelihood of ice buildup on the road by removing select trees that shade the road.
